Purpose

This policy outlines the steps employees must follow when they are sick and unable to attend work or require the ability to work from home due to illness.

Application

The policy applies to all Buzz Marketing employees. As per the Employment Standards Act, all employees are entitled to 3 days of unpaid sick leave. In addition to that, all full-time and part-time employees are entitled to 5 paid sick days each year. Buzz Marketing management requires reasonably sufficient proof of illness for payment. The employee must have worked with Buzz Marketing for at least 90 days to be eligible for paid sick days.

1. Working from Home

An employee may feel ill but still be able to work. In this scenario, they may not attend work in the office as they could pose the risk of infecting others. However, they may work from home. Persistent coughing and sneezing indicate that an employee is too sick to attend work in the office.

2. Calling in Sick

If an employee feels too sick to attend work, it is recommended that they promptly call the General Manager, Barry, or his partner, Niko. If at all possible, call at least 2 hours before the start of the intended shift.

Cellphone details:
Barry: +1 250-317-6117
Niko: +1 250-575-4560

3. Explanation

Be brief. Avoid a long-winded explanation about your illness. Simply let them know that you feel ill and will either be out for the day or working from home.

Example:
"I woke up with a cold and a stomach bug, so I am not coming into work today in case it is contagious."

You do not need to get into details such as your temperature, medications, or the cause of your illness.

4. Doctor's Note

A doctor's note is required to receive pay for a sick day. Some exceptions may be made at the Manager's discretion. When the employee decides to work from home, a regular day wage will be paid.
